The main aim of thisstudy is toprovide a criticalperspectivetodebate on whetherIslamandcivilsociety can appeartogether. Inthisstudyweseekfortheanswers of thesebasicquestions; how civilsociety’sconceptualmeaning has changedover time, how Islam-civilsocietyrelation is discussed, whetherdiscussionsfocusing on Islam’simpact on social, legal, politicalspheres is meaningful. Inthisstudy, civilsociety is examinedthroughitsconceptualandhistoricalbackgroundandconceptualized as theformation of capitalistsocialrelations. Inthiscontext, civilsociety-democracydebatewhich had risenthrough 1980’s and 1990’s is mentionedand it is tried top ut forward a criticalapproachtothisdebate. ThentheIslamandcivilsocietydebate is given in detail. Intheconclusionpart of thestudy, theoutline of a criticalapproachtoIslamandcivilsocietydebate is exemplifiedbytheintegration of thegeographytotheneo-liberal order.
