A DESCRIPTIVE APPROACH TO AGENDA SETTING AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Media determines the societies agendas. Media tells people that what to think or what to they need to think about. People meet their information and news needs by media channels. According to Ageda Setting Theory, society learn the subjets which are on the agenda and learn the importance of these issues from the mass media. Thanks to the diversity of communication Technologies, the facilities of reaching information and news has getting unlimited. By developing technology social media has emerged. Conventional media and Social media ensures information to the masses, but social media provides an interactive platform to them at the same time. With the includition of social media notion to our life, there has been changing the way of defining and conducting of agenda by media. In this new media environment, any social movement that emerges in any place of the World, can reach the masses rapidly and can change the agenda of the World. In this study, agenda setting and social media concepts and agenda setting approaches are included. In addition, the studies on the agenda and social media concepts that were published in WoS and Scopus published between 2009 and 2019 were examined through content analysis. At the end of the research, the articles were evaluated with the descriptive statistics in categories as the usage of agenda setting and social media notions together, the subject of the research, the research method and the result of the research.
