William Faulkner, born into an aristocratic family thirty-two years after the American Civil War (1861-1865), has witnessed throughout his lifetime the collapse of the South region of America and irreparable traces of the defeat. According to Faulkner, who has thought that explaining the destruction that the civil war has left to the South means describing the catastrophe of humanity, the most important thing is human and human hearts, rather than thoughts. For this reason, in his works, he has told about the humans, especially the pains of humans who are incapable of live. Faulkner has built As I Lay Dying, published in 1930, on the effort of Bundren family who wants to bury their dead mother to Jefferson. When the novel is evaluated in the context of the narrative elements, it is determined that Faulkner, who has aimed to convey the reality with all dimensions and to understand the human reality, has reached a universal synthesis in this novel by thinking of the fact that there is an integrity between structure and content.
