Deus otiosus means laodicean and reclusive god. This concept in history of religions states that the God rests and moves away from people’s spiritual life in the progress of time. Especially, this kind of spiritual understanding can be seen obviously in religious beliefs of Africa, Greece, Anatolia and also Indian mythology. In Christian holy texts and culture, laodicean God takes place as well. The Jesus said “My Lord, why did you leave me alone?” when he was crucified, this orison of Jesus expresses the silence of God to many Christians’ mind. The complaint, which means He doesn’t hear the people because God takes a rest, is the most important issue that Christians have been discussing from the past to the present. In this article, this issue with the influence on daily spiritual and social life of Christians is considered. The meaning of God’s silence to Christians’ mind is addressed within the context of the movie Winter Light by Ingmar Bergman. In this movie, the reality of God’s disregard to people’s voices is paradoxically looked at with the eye of an ecclesiastic.
