Since the Tanzimat reform, in Turkish literature has developed either by being based on non-textual elements or through an understanding biased by a critic’s personal thoughts and feelings unfortunatelly. Literary works have been analyzed through historical, sociological, Marksist, subjective apprehension. Unlike the Subjective criticism, the criticism done impartially on the content, structure and style of literary works is called “objective criticism”. This form of criticism states, that instead of relying on personal assessment and comments specific criteria are to be used for the evaluation of each work, which are unbiased. Hüseyin Cöntürk, is one of our critics, literary critiques in addition opposed the school of “subjective criticism” whose most important representative is considered to be Nurullah Atac. In the first instance, Cöntürk, who is considered to be the founder of scientific (objective) criticism in our country defined the criteria to be used for the objective criticism and consequently applied these criteria to analyze literary works. This work focuses on the views of Hüseyin Cöntürk about language and literature and critics.
