Ottoman Turkish which is one of the historical periods of Turkish is a Turkish written language with Arabic letters and it covers approximately five-hundred-year period of Turkish language history. As the heirs of a big history, Ottoman Turkish needs to be learned so as to read and understand historical, cultural and literary works which belong to that long period. However, Ottoman Turkish is not another language as it is regarded too. Nowadays, Ottoman Turkish instruction is being given at Social Sciences High Schools, at universities in the departments of Turkish, Turkish Language and Literature, History, Library Science and Art History and in some private courses. However, some biases against the class and some views about the fact that it has no area of use in life create problems in the instruction of Ottoman Turkish. With the present study, problems which are experienced in Ottoman Turkish classes especially taught in the departments of Turkish Education will be dwelt on and solution recommendations to these problems will be tried to be offered. Thus, attention will have been drawn to the issues as to the importance of Ottoman Turkish instruction, its necessity and dissemination of Ottoman Turkish instruction.
