Kumlu has been as swampland covered by reeds under water of Amik Lake until 1945. At this time this region was determined as settlement area. By drying the swampland and giving land to peasants for agriculture, this region started to take migration. In 1955 it became a village named as Killik Village within Reyhanl? District. In 1968 municipality was established and its name was changed as Kumlu. In 1990 it was separated from Reyhanl? and became the eleventh district of Hatay. As Hatay became metropolitan municipality in 2012 the villages of Kumlu were changed into neighborhoods and its current boundaries were shaped. Aim of this study is to investigate the administrative boundaries of Kumlu District (Hatay), to determine the problems arising from these boundaries and to offer the solution. In the study Administrative Boundary Map of Hatay, Settlement Map of Hatay, and Topographic Maps with scale of 1/25000 were used. By using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) these data were analyzed. Spatial and locational problems were tried to explain by calculating several measurements. Furthermore field studies were carried out and several interviews were made with related persons in order to determine the problems. Consequently, there have been determined problems arising from current administrative boundaries of Kumlu district. In order to solve these problems the district boundaries should be changed and updated. It is offered that the boundary between Kumlu and Reyhanl? should pass through Afrin River Drying Channel at the southern, the boundary between Kumlu and Antakya should pass through Afrin River Drying Channel and Akkuyu Channel at the western, and the boundary between Kumlu and K?r?khan should pass through Akkuyu Channel at the northern. If the district boundaries are updated as offered in this study, by including 8 neighborhoods located in Reyhanl? district to Kumlu district, and 1 neighborhood located in Kumlu district to K?r?khan district the problems will have been solved.
