Turkish society’s acquaintance with Journal began in 1831. The journals in that century had an important social and political function in terms of firstly education, then industry, agriculture, health, transportation, literature, language, culture and westernization. It can be said that public were educated through journals beside publishing houses and schools. In this study the activities of the journalizm in the 19. century toward the public are analyzed via words as nation, community, public opinion, “tabaa”, public.
