Ali Ekrem Bolay?r was a men of letters and a member of Servet-i Fünûn (the Wealth of Sciences) community. Having created works in a wide variety of genres, Ali Ekrem Bolay?r showed increased concern with social issues, especially after the announcement of the Second Constitutional Era. The language issue was one of the subjects he emphasized in his many works. Târih-i Edebiyyât-? Osmâniyye (The History of Ottoman Literature) (1910), Lisân-? Edebiyyât (The Language of Literature) (1914), Nazariyyât-? Edebiyye Dersleri (Literary Theory Courses) (1915-1916), Nazariyyât-? Edebiyye Dersleri-Nesir K?sm? (Literary Theory Courses-Prose Volume) (1916- 1917), Nazariyyât-? Edebiyye Dersleri-Mesâlik-i Edebiyye (Literary Theory Courses-Ways Of Literature) (1917-1918), ?erh-i Mütûna Medhal (Introduction to the Annotation of Texts) (1928), Lisân?m?z (Our Language) (1930) are among the works in which he expressed his opinions on language. Lisân-? Osmânî (The Ottoman Language) (1914) was written poetically in an effort to prove the power and expression capability of Ottoman Turkish and to express his opinions on language simplification. This article evaluates Ali Ekrem Bolay?r's article, Lisân-? Osmânî (The Ottoman Language), contextually while identifying his opinions on language and providing a full Romanization of the text.
