The fact that original production in science fiction literature is limited in the Turkish language and yet the reader’s demand is relatively high, pushes translated science fiction literature in Turkish to a central position. In this study, a novel from the Dune series which is deemed an important work in science fiction literature is discussed within the framework of retranslation hypothesis. In the first part, a short introduction to the series and its position in the Turkish literature polysystem is presented followed by a discussion on the “Heretics of Dune” translation in Turkish through specific examples on how the translator decisions differ and the possible causes of these decisions. Insights of the examples are discussed within the theoretical framework in the conclusion.
