Shen’s (2004) “Survey for Chinese Character Learning Strategies” study is adapted for Turkish students learning Chinese. Participants in this study were 36 adult Turkish students who have been learning Chinese as a foreign language in Sinology Deparment. This study investigated for the most frequently used Chinese character writing learning cognitive and metacognitive strategies of the students in first and fouth classes. The results were compared with the strategies of the five criteria group for first and fourth grades. As a result of this research, first and fourth grades commonly used the ortographic knowledge-based strategies. The most obvious difference observed between the two grades is the memorising strategies in third set of criteria.
