In this research the marriage of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with Zaynab bint Jahsh who was wife of his adopted child Zayd ibn Harithah were examined by taking the main sources into consideration. In the study, it was emphasized that adopted child was perceived as ‘biological one’ and that marrying his wife was not appropriate to tradition at that time. It is very difficult to break with tradition in a society where such a perception is dominant. In spite of being aware of the ensuing reactions against himself, the Prophetgot married Zaynab bint Jahsh who was his adopted child Zayd ibn Harithah’s wife in order to show that this Jahiliyya tradition was not Islamic. For this reason, it was concluded that The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) made this marriage to change this view of marriage in society
