The main target of Southeastern Anatolia Project (known as GAP in Turkish) is the agricultural-based production. Harran plain which is in the GAP Project has the largest agricultural land and irrigation systems in the region. It has also the largest irrigation systems with 160.000 ha in Turkey. In the present study, changes in major agricultural lands of Harran plain irrigated since 1995 were examined using remote sensing technology. Accordingly, irrigated agricultural land was about 15.120 ha while it was 58.410 in 1992. The year-1999 is crucial as an indicator to demonstrate the effects of GAP on research area. The irrigated agricultural land was found to be about 137.362 ha and there has been an increase in irrigated land by 78.952 ha. Consequently, there has been a 59.77 % increase in irrigated lands between the years of 1984-2011.
