Ibn Sîde is one of the most important linguists who trained himself in the fields of Arabic Language and Literature and lexicography during the period of Mulûku't-Tawâif (Principalities) established after the collapse of the Andalusian Umayyad state. Although Andalus was very complicated politically during the period of the author's life, it continued to develop in the cultural spheres thanks to the encouragement and protection of the rulers (emirs). In addition to the works about language and literature which we know only their names in the sources, he achieved his fame with his two encyclopedic dictionaries, al-Mukhassas and al-Muhkam. al-Muhkam, is accepted as the latest and most equipped dictionary written in Andalus with the basic principles of al-Ayn school. al-Muhkam, which left behind other dictionaries with its rich language materials as well as regular and scientific method in explaining the meaning of the words, is an important example in terms of showing the great progress made in the dictionary studies in Andalusia in the 5th year of Hijra.
