In this work, it is aimed to examine the concepts of artists in the periods of Ancient Greek Culture, Enlightenment and Fin de Siécle. This study, which has the character of making an answer from the historical point of view, is trying to shed light on the artist problematic on the basis of the definitions within the periods. The Word ‘Artist’, which is still widely used today, also differs in terms of the persons it describes and is handled according to the artistic fields of these persons. This word of qualification, which is sometimes used for a craftsman and sometimes for a writer, has been shaped by a number of criteria in the past. In this work, which reflects the diversity of these changes, primarily the similarities and differences between the artist and the craftsman will be examined. Later, with the indication of the transpiring boundaries by the Enlightenment, the influence of the Fin de Siécle period, which expresses the end of the nineteenth century treated by the features of the present age as a collapse, with regard to artist concept will be examined.
