One of the significant traditions in aspect of Turkish culture history is hunting. Financial life of the Turks establishing great world states on wide steppe geography is based on the livestock raising and hunting is supplementary aspect on this system. Therefore, it is known that numerous communities in Turkish history provide their income from hunting. It is understood that while they actualize this profession, they have also adhered to certain rule and traditions. Various weapons and hunting material are used in Turkish history relating to hunting however primary weapon used generally in driven hunting were bow and arrow. Turks were recognized as a community that is able to handle horse and throw arrow on the horse until childhood. Certain traditions have significant role in the earning of such capabilities. One of these traditions is hunting. People had the chance of preparing for war due to hunts on the steppe geography. During these hunts, place and position of waiting as well as strategy and tactic to be implemented were determined also the ones that have not complied with rules and had errors were punished. Therefore, each hunt was becoming practice for battle. These military applications developed and used by Turks in driven hunts were the basis of military strategy called “Turan Tactic” which was used in battles in further period. This tactic had become a tactic successfully implemented by numerous Turkish states including Ottomans within history. Turks have used diversion and intimidation tactic in the battles as well as hunts by benefiting the opportunity of speed and velocity they had because of their horses. Turks becoming hunter and chasing hunts by performing driven hunting were deeming their enemies as hunt and themselves as hunter. Animals relating to hunts having significant place in the mythology, religion and idea life of Turks indicate the position and significance of hunting.
