Birds are indispensable components of metaphor in folk and classical Ottoman poetry. Many folk and classical Ottoman poets draw upon different kinds of birds as metaphors for especially their lovers and other characters concerning similarities of characteristics. In this work, Gevheri a marked 17th century, Ottoman folk poet, and names of birds, species of birds, tinted dream world that each bird correspondences to in his divan, and briefly the place of bird in our culture, social life, literature and poetry will be dwelt upon.
