This article is about the social condition of a prostitute nicknamed ‘’Boule de Suif’’ lived in the 19th century. She is constantly despised and belittled by the other characters who represent the different levels of French society of that time. Bull de Suif is different from other women who have the same situation by her kindness, her humility, her patriotism but that difference does not prevent him from being a victim of her time.In Normandy, during the war of 1870, ten travelers board a stagecoach to leave Rouen, which is invaded by the Prussians. The passengers form a microcosm, each of them representing a sample of 19th century society. The presence of Bull de Suif disturbs her companions. They didn't know the young woman. The adventures of the trip will update the baseness of each other. Maupassant tries to show that human qualities have nothing to do with social status.
