The objective of the study is to set the level and extent of field literacy of candidate science teachers as well as their field competencies at their senior years before getting started with teaching. The data used in the study was obtained from year 4 students of Science Education Departments of Isparta Süleyman Demirel University and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University of Turkey as these universities are their students are easy to access. A science literacy test of 25 questions, designed by Bacanak (2002) and the reliability and validity of which was also confirmed, was applied. T-test, frequency and percentage distribution and Pearson correlation methods were used to analyze the data. The findings and outcomes of the study involved the analyses and interpretation of the data coming from candidate science teachers studying at two different state universities of Turkey regarding various variables like sex etc. The outcomes demonstrated that the variables had no impact on field and science literacies of candidate teachers while it was found that a medium-level correlation between science literacy and field competencies averages. This study and related other studies hold significance in growing high-caliber teachers.
