All human beings are obliged to eat and drink in order to continue their lives. It is of prime importance to choose only the permissible (halal) and healthy foods but not the impermissible (haram) and unhealthy ones. There are certain criteria concerning eating and drinking in the Islamic Law. These criteria fall into four major categories as purpose for eating and drinking, pre-eating criteria, while-eating criteria and post-eating criteria. Besides, criteria for gifts and treats as food items are very important too. There are also some criteria for drinking water.
