The paper focuses on the way these artists were affected by social changes in Europe and the way reflected their paintings related to literary themes. The 18th and 19th centuries saw enormous changes in Europe. While Enlightenment relies on human reason and science, the French Revolution along with Industrial Revolution had a great impact on social life. The advancements in science and technology led to the positivist era in the 19th century. The rapid changes in the social life influenced the European art considerably. As a result, the several new movements like Neoclassicism, Romanticism, and Realism have emerged as a response to the previous ones. The paper is trying to analyze literature related painting of David, Rossetti, and Daumier who are among the leading artists of these movements. We discuss why and how David revisited Iliad, Rossetti reflected The New Life and The Divine Comedy on canvas, and Daumier interpreted Don Quixote.
