The aim of this article is to study the fictional and metafictional approach of David Lodge who has deeply influenced not only the recent English literature but also the West literature. As a literature professor, theorist, critic and fiction writer, Lodge has a different stand from most other authors. These characteristics are easily recognized with the metafictional techniques and methods used in his fictions. Lodge makes the occupation of fiction be the focus material of fiction. Because he both carries different identities and works carefully on fiction, he has become a writer drawing attention to fiction and metafiction. He has constantly renewed his literary experience and followed a way open to various tendencies and techniques. Therefore, watching Lodge’s literary line will also set light on the modern-day literary understanding.
