Latifi’s tezkirah titled Tezkiretü’?-?u’arâ vü Tabs?ratü’n-nuzamâ was told be completed and presented to the then-Ottoma sultan Kanûnî Sultan Süleyman in 1546. The book contains some biographical information, anecdotes and samples from each poet, who lived within the Ottoman borders from the reign of II. Murad the second to 1546. The first chapter titled as “Fasl-? evvel” in the Tezkirah deals with thirteen poets and this is followed by the second chapter titled “El-Faslu’s-sânî Fî-Beyân-? ?u’arâ-i Selâtîn-i Âl-i ‘Osmâniyân” which introduces the Ottoman sultans and princes who indulged in poetry and written poems. In the third chapter the work then outlines the biographies of 334 poets who lived in ottoman lands and wrote poems in Turkish: This paper aims to identify how the sultans II. Murad, Fatih Sultan Mehmed, II. Bayezid, ?ehzade Cem, ?ehzade Korkut, Yavuz Sultan Selim and Kanûnî Sultan Süleyman are presented in the book; what characteristics of them are particularly stressed and what qualities of them are superficially given; how their political and military acts are evaluated; and finally how their literary levels are considered.
