Frequency analysis of musical instruments and acoustical properties of enclosed spaces are important research areas in acoustics and music technology. Recording studios are sound production areas where these two fields combine with each other. The acoustical properties of these spaces have a significant impact on the sound that is picked up by the microphones. Another research interest that is carried on by the field of music technology is based on microphone techniques used in recording different instruments. Recording instruments with different microphone techniques result in different frequency responses. There are no specific microphone techniques or room response requirements for turkish musical instruments in the literature. This study aims to determine room response requirements for turkish musical instruments which have been recorded with different microphone techniques. On the other hand, the frequency responses of the recorded signals will be evaluated in order to find out which microphone techiques should be used for a “good” recording.
