The fact that most of the world’s merchandise is carried out by seaway increases the importance of sea
transportation. However, technological developments affect the structure of sea transportation. With the developing
technology and globalizing world trade, the importance of digitalization is increasing day by day and the maritime
sector has had to adapt to this process. The transformation in the current situation is necessary to keep an up-to-date
look at in order to digitalize the ships and ensure their survival in order to competitive of the dynamic market in the
worldwide. In this context, the aim of the study is to reveal the digital transformation experienced on ships and to
determine the importance and effects of digitalization. The significance and effects of digitalization on ships
transportation have been determined through a literature review.
