Family violence is a common issue for families living in different regions and cultures, regardless of their social, cultural and economic level. Violence, which is considered as a family-specific phenomenon in the past, is now considered to be a common, widespread social-cultural problem in the world and a common socio-cultural problem in the world. Especially, it is emphasized to be accepted as a public health problem. Domestic violence is defined as the physical and psychological assault of an individual against his or her family members. Violence is often characterized as the brute force applied by the powerful person to the weak person. Today, it forms part of our lives. Because violence is observed in every society from village to city. Domestic violence is associated with depression, stress and mental disorders in individuals who are being applied to all members of their families. It has been observed that women and children are more exposed to domestic violence. As a classical Turkish society, it is seen that men are superior to women and women are abused. In order to prevent domestic violence as a society, various practices are being implemented and positive results are obtained. It is observed that we are not only thinking individually as a society, but as a union and taking measures for domestic violence. In this review, the subjects who are exposed to domestic violence, their causes, symptoms and ways of prevention are discussed
