In many countries, the ministries, local administrations, universities and non-governmental organizations are working to increase the comfort of educational buildings. In this context, design guidelines, action plans, training programs and evaluation systems for students and teachers were created for school buildings. These guidelines provide information to designers in many areas such as space features, design recommendations, comfort conditions (visual, auditory and thermal comfort) and energy use etc..The aim of this paper is to evaluate all classrooms of an educational building in Istanbul/Turkey in terms of visual comfort parameters and artificial lighting energy usage in accordance with the suggestions for visual comfort conditions in “Education Buildings Minimum Design Standards Guide”. At the end of the evaluation, it is aimed to reveal the effects of design decisions on visual comfort and energy consumed for artificial lighting. The findings will be beneficial in terms of creating an example for lighting design of educational buildings and similar buildings.
