In this study, two different Turkish translations of L’Avare (The Miser) by Molière, who contributed to the development of world theatre and to the creation of Turkish literary scene, are evaluated in terms of Translation Studies. Whether the translation will be presented to the target reader as a literary work to be read or as a play to be staged is the basic question, and the specific difficulties of theatre translation derive from this distinction. The translations evaluated in this paper have been chosen as samples because the translators have employed different strategies. In the study translation comparison method is used and reviews are realized on the basis of a comparison of selected samples. Translation comparison method, unlike the translation criticism, does not include the positive or negative evaluations and is only intended to describe translation attitude observed in the target text (Nord 1995: 189). However, it is based on types of equivalence formed by Koller (2004: 228-266) to be described evaluations in the framework of translation’s criteria. In the process of transferring the source text to the target language it is expected that equivalence is ensured in terms of denotation, connotation, operant and artistic use of language
