The aim of this study is to determine not only the teachers’ views on ‘Sound-Based Sentence Method’ but also their problems with the method besides alternative solutions to the problem. The teachers employed to teach students in class two in the province of Giresun were, therefore, interviewed. In the sample group were included eight teachers involved in teaching elementary reading and writing through ‘Sound-Based Sentence Method’ and analytic method. The data obtained were analysed under the title of sub-problems. The results indicated that teachers considered pre-service and in-service training programs to be insufficient, Sound-Based Sentence Method speeded up or promoted the process of reading and writing, no important problems were faced during the teaching of adjacent and oblique hand-writing, technologic tools and especially text-books should be improved although no significant problems were experienced as regards the teaching of elementary reading and writing and the provision of any means of teaching, and that primary-school teachers’ opinions on the teaching of elementary reading and writing should be taken into consideration.
