Abstract

Author(s): Halil ÇETIN

It seems nowadays that there are various Haci Bektash Veli portraits that bear the religious, ideological and political identity. However we know that historical documents are underestimated and academic methods are hardly used in producing these identities. Accordingly some of the popular or academic researches about Haci Bektash Veli maintain very assertive results. The thoughts pointed out by these writings don’t coincede with the historical personality of him. This research aims to determine previously the place of Haci Bektash Veli on the agenda and his different portraits. The ideas of writers belong to the Right and Left wings in political life in general put the shaikh into the mold that they produced. Some of these molds could be classified as “Turkish Nationalist, Orthodox Sufi Master and Humanist Revolutionist Leader.” The historical personality of him apart from these molds indicates him as a shaikh of the Haidari/Vefai order living in Sulucakarahöyük and respected by the nomad Turcomans. For this reason, the readers must choose sources carefully to obtain knowledge about him. Otherwise it is unavoidable to get intellectual troubles among various personalities of Haci Bektash Veli.
