GAINING ARCHAEOLOGICAL POTENTIAL TO RURAL TOURISM: THE CASE OF ORTACA

Perceptions and expectations related to tourist products and services show alterations on tourism sector as they do in the other Sectors in paralel with elapsed time, economical, political, socio-cultural, demographical characteristics and with technological developments. At the present time in which the interest in mass tourism decreases day by day and the demand for alternative tourism increases, activities as seeing the natural beauty of the countryside, meeting people from different cultures, participating in activities indigenous to rural area, integrating with the nature and the environment create scope of rural tourism which is one of the tourism types. The life of people, having struggled against environment and having won this struggle after they had started to be engaged in Agriculture, was rural qualified between the time industrial revoluion and World War II before the extant life style which having been caused because of heavy increase in industrialization and urbanization. Mentioned life style started from The Neolithic Age and continues its existence bucolicaly in rural environment, although it has gone through many changes until today. Although history of Ortaca is not old-dated, structures like Caunos Ancient City which is located in the border of Köyce?iz but really close to Ortaca and identified with Dalyan, Pisilis Ancient City, Rock graves in Karadonlar, The Byzantine Church situated in Mergenli and Dalyan Mosque, are seen as the Archeological and historical potentials of Ortaca which are not imparted to Tourism industry. The aims of this study are to mark off archaeological potentials of Ortaca and make a remark on at what rate they can be imparted to tourism sector.
