Family is the core and basic unit of a society, and at the same time it is the most ancient and universal institution. Every society needs family institution for the continuation of its existence. Industrialization, urbanization, technological developments has influenced family and the other institutions as well. Change in the structure and functions of family and roles in family brought about some problems one of which is divorce. There are many factors which have effect on divorce. Divorce is highly influenced by religious beliefs, customs, traditions and legal arrangements. Islam does not take kindly to divorce. When the possibility of an agreement between spouses and continuation of married life is impossible, the marital bond can be dissolved. Undoubtedly divorce has the most negative effects on children. The future of society depends on children raising in healthy and settled family environments. A healthy and peaceful family relies on a family’s being founded strong basis. In this article, evaluations, comparisons and interpretations about divorce problem in the process of transition from extended family to nuclear family is discussed in the light of research findings and quantitative observation data
