In the last years of the 20th century, new media such as computers and the Internet, have created a surveillance society functioning both in the physical world and in the virtual world. In this study, the concepts of surveillance, surveillance society and surveillance struggles are explained. In addition, the place of surveillance practices in scientific studies are questioned. The historical process of the surveillance society in the context of the new media is explained in three different ways, such as pre -modern surveillance, modern surveillance and postmodern surveillance. The place of blogs within the surveillance community is identified and the relationship with the surveillance community is revealed. The detrimental effects of the surveillance society created by the new media tools on human beings are examined socially and psychologically. In the light of these theoretical findings Patrick Brosi’s crime novel “Der Blogger” is considered in detail as the object of study. In this context, a triangle consisting of mediPlan, bloggers René Berger and Marie Sommer is created. The social and psychological impacts of the surveillance society in the context of the new media are alsodiscussed.
