The region of Herat which was an important settlement since the ancient times was an area where disasters and epidemic diseases widely occured. Because the region was on a seismic belt there were lots of earthquakes. Some of these earthquakes were so severe and they were destructive at the same rate. Though the continental climate was mild in the region, because of the unstable climate features the region became a place where there was drought and consequently famine was widely seen in addition to drought. By the reason of unstable features of continental climate caused excessive rain which led to flood in addition to drought and the cities in this region were damaged a lot in the course of time. Plague which occurred frequently in the Middle Ages and had fatal results because it was epidemic was intensely confronted in tis region. The most severe effect was in the reign of Mirza Shahrukh and it was only overcome by strict quarantine precautions
