The purpose of this study is to determine hopelessness levels of students studying in the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Akdeniz University during 2016-2017 academic year with regard to some variables. The Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) which was developed by Beck et al. (1971) and adapted into Turkish culture by Seber et al. (1991), was used to determine hopelessness levels of participants. The scale consists of 20 items. Cronbach alpha value of the scale was found 0.85 in relation to internal consistency. SPSS was used in order to analyze data. Mann Whitney-U test was used because of non parametric data. A total of 370 participants, 187 females (50,5 %) and 183 males (49,5 %), were included in this study. Regarding sex, a significant difference was observed between males and females in the average point of hopelessness levels of students. The levels of hopelessness of male students ( ?=6,47) were observed lower than female students’ ( ?=4,29). Regarding the participation in recreational activities, the levels of hopelessness of individuals participating in recreational activities ( ?=4,56) were observed lower. Conclusion: As the result of this study, the hopelessness levels of females are lower than males and participation in recreational activities reduces hopelessness levels of individuals.
