The aim of this study is to determine the level of success in reading comprehension of the students who have learned to read and write with sound based sentence method in the different types of texts and to determine whether the success levels differ according to gender, parents' educational level, pre-school education level and the children's book interaction. The research is organized in accordance with the screening model . The population of the research was composed of a total of 133 students attending the 3rd grade education in state schools in Bahçelievler, Bak?rköy and Zeytinburnu districts in ?stanbul. “Personal Information Form” and “Reading Comprehension Test” developed by the researcher is used to collect data. According to the overall performance the reading comprehension success in different texts for sound based sentence method of literacy learners are in good level. According to the students' reading achievement test scores obtained from narrative text the comprehension levels are good. Their reading comprehension achievement scores from informative texts and poetry are moderate. Girls are more successful then boys in narrative text, poetry and in overall scores. There is no significant difference between boys and girls in informative text reading comprehension scores. The reading comprehension tests in three different types of texts don’t show significant difference according to parents education level, pre school education status, the number of books they read in a month,buying books for themselves and reading the nice places in the books to others.
