Abstract

Author(s): Yaren ŞEKERCİ, İbrahim BAKIR

Universities in the world and Turkey provide graduate level education in institutes, each with its own research and writing methodology. Institutes were specialized and divided into categories such as natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, fine arts, science and graduate education institute according to their study subject and research methods. If a university deem it necessary, specific institutes belonging to that university are also established. The departments are assigned to one of the institutes of the universities in a way that is most suitable for the study subject and research methods of it. Some of the departments can easily be defined under the relevant institute when they match the methods and fields of one of the institutes. However, this situation is not so easy in departments such as architecture which is located at the intersection of science, social sciences and fine arts. Graduate level architecture education is given in 52 universities in Turkey and 49 of them on Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences while 3 of them are on Institute of Postgraduate. In this context, Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences, which included the department of architecture with a high rate of 94%, was examined based on the study areas, study and research methods of architecture, and the appropriateness of the institute-department was researched.
