A military coup was conducted under the leadership of the Chief of General Staff Kenan Evren in Turkey on 12 September, 1980. Following the coup, a new political structuring process was experienced. In this process, it was seen that Evren had used expressions to legitimate both the coup and political implementations. In his speeches addressed to the public during his travels in Anatolia, Evren also mentioned the political, cultural and economic issues of the region he went to and tried to reveal the reasons for the coup. Although the public did not a negative react to the coup, Evren wanted to provide public support with his speeches to the coup , the National Security Council and the Council's implementations. While trying to provide public support, Kenan Evren did not hesitate to put forward as a threat factor the possibility of returning to preSeptember 12 conditions if his words were not taken into consideration. In this study, Evren's efforts to legitimize the coup during his travels in Anatolia from 12 September 1980 military coup to 6 November 1983 elections and the arguments, discourses he used to achieve this were examined.
