Values, which are aimed to be transferred to the students in each disciplinary field entered into the curriculun as a result of the 2017 curriculum renewal studies done by the Ministry of Education, are the root values. The values mentioned are justice, friendship, honesty, self control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and helpfulness. Turkish course has has an undeniable importance for the development of language skills and the transfer of values. The basic question of the study are, “Is it possible to examine O?uz Ka?an Epic (the text before Islam) in terms of root values? and can this text be taken into consideration in the context of root values education in the 5th grade Turkish course books?” The aim of this sudy is to make a link with Turkish Oguz Kagan Epic in the context of root values with elementary school 5th grade students and to contribute to the development of the spiritual world and moral identity of the new generation who are weak in imagination and taking initiative. In this context, text analysis within the basic language skills of reading and writing, shapes the method of qualitative study. As a result of this study “respect” and “love” are the most common values in O?uz Ka?an Epic. In the epic, responsibility comes after these two values.
