We can see the most important element in the education process with the characteristics affecting, directing, motivating and mobilizing teachers in the process of influencing the surroundings. The role of the teacher, together with today's educational approaches, has been replaced by the role of guiding the student not to provide information to the student by moving away from the traditional structure. Leading teachers have an indirect and direct impact on the fulfillment of the educational, educational and institutional objectives of the classroom and school. For this reason, it is important to support and develop the leadership characteristics of teachers in the literature. In this study, it was aimed to determine the characteristics of the leading teachers and the leading teacher metaphors based on the opinions of the prospective teachers. Content analysis method was used for the purpose of the study. The typical sampling method used in the purposeful sampling method was used to determine the study group. In the 2017-2018 academic year, 51 students who were studying formation in the Department of Educational Sciences were identified as study group. A semistructured interview form consisting of two open-ended questions was prepared for the opinions of prospective teachers. According to the data obtained from the interview form, the characteristics of the leading teachers were evaluated according to student, colleague, parents, environment, education environment and school management and then the leading teacher metaphors were grouped. . Accordingly, the leading teacher metaphors are divided into six categories as the function of illuminating, guiding function, cultivation function, integration and protection function, managing function, changing / beautification function. Leading teacher metaphors of each category are included.
