Surely discovering writing is a milestone for humanity in terms of transferring scientific and cultural richness to the future. This situation has brought a process including attributing holiness to the symbols that constitute writing, with it. Because of the fact that spoken words fly away and written words remain, writing is seen as the key to continue their name by men of letters. On the other hand, as poets and writers deal with letters while creating their pieces or reading various texts, the shape of letters have a significant place in their imaginary world. Especially divan poets drew analogies between Arab letters and different factors in terms of the shapes of letters and they formed letter and word plays on the basis of these analogies. One of the poets who used these plays is Me’âlî’ (dth. 1535-36). It can be seen that there are tens of letter and word plays in the Divan of the poet. In this study, it is attempted to determine the letter and word plays in the Divan of Me’âlî, and they are analyzed in a specific classification axis.
