Madrasahs were the most important and organizational structure for education and training during not only the period of Great Seljuk and Anatolian Seljuks but also Ottoman Empire. Baghdat Nizamiye Madrasah, where prior to the beginning of madrasahs, undertook the mission of not only the training of the members of scientific but also the education of qualified staffs to state cadres during the period of Seljuks and Ottomans, at till the operation of Semaniye Madrasah where built by Fatih in Istanbul in 1470. Madrasahs, as educational institutions where engaged in education and training in free charge, also took on the mission of providing the social justice in society and the equality of oppurtunities and possibilities between members.Foundations has been the most significant financial resources for the establishment and processing of madrasahs in the related periods. Madrasahs, through established foundations, have met all the their requirements and costs.
Though foundations were the principal resources of income for madrasahs, madrasahs have been funded by puplic purse in the case of needs, also sometimes sultans themselves have provided financial supports. The assistance given by rich people were also among the financial resources of madrasahs as well as states and state’s officials. This article especially focused on the required financial resources while performing of the educational activities of madrasahs in the period of Great Seljuks, Anatonilan Seljuks and Ottoman Empire.
