The collective feelings and thoughts that emerge in the narratives of every nation are transformed into
archetypal symbols of the first root by reaching a universal dimension. The cultural memory produced by nations at
different times and in different geographies creates a common memory of mankind by moving to a universal image with
archetypes. Symbol and motif analysis, which plays an active role in the formation of cultural memory, is necessary in
order to reveal the codes that explain the society. The archetypes most commonly referred to in this context are self;
anima, animus, mother, wise old man, shadow and persona archetypes. The mother image often finds itself in the public
narratives of the living memory of social memory, and in the folk stories that are among them, with its positive and
negative sides.
Among the folk literature products, the mother archetype has a remarkable place in folk stories performed by
the lovers together with the verse prose. In this framework, the folk stories in which the theme of love is handled in the
context of Kerem and Asl?'s story is the main aim of the mother archetype and its negative reflections to be one of the
obstacles in front of her daughter and therefore of love.
