Muallim Naci (1849-1893), one of the Tanzimat period literati, has written works in areas such as poetry, criticism, theatre, history, letters, biography, dictionary, history of literature, school books, translation, memorabilia. “Ömer’in Çocuklu?u” is a valuable work in the memoir genre, which includes the life story of the author mainly up to the age of eight. “Ömer’in Çocuklu?u” was published as the third part of the work called “Sünbüle (1307/1890)”, which was not published as a separate book at the time it was written. “Ömer’in Çocuklu?u” sheds light on many issues from the family structure of the period to the way he grew up; from the education system to the neighborhood schools; from the neighborly relations to the understanding of friendship; from child education to child psychology. In addition to being one of the first examples of memorabilia in Turkish literature, perhaps one of the aspects that is not much emphasized is that it has successfully processed individual, social and cultural values. In the work, these values are conveyed to the reader through the bittersweet events experienced by a child in lean, friendly and fluent language. In this study, we examined the values committed in “Ömerin Çocuklu?u” on the axis of justice, friendship, honesty, selfcontrol, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and benevolence root values in the educational programs and found overlapping values.
