Art is one of the pursuits considered to be unique to humans. Art, just like philosophy and science, is one of the activities that makes human beings who they are and gives them superiority. When art is in question, music is presumably one of the first things that comes to mind. Music has been indispensable to humanity with its power to directly influence human emotions. However, humans who could not do without music performed the music for different purposes in different periods, and the music they put forth was in compliance with these purposes. Looking back, in ancient Greece, a prominent society in the field of music as in the field of philosophy, music was associated with the divine, and it was primarily used for moral and educational purposes to transform the character of the soul. In addition, the ancient Greeks associated music with the cosmos and tried to make use of it for healing purposes. Music that filled every moment of their life was not a subject that can be left to the pleasures and wishes of ordinary people. Music was a very important subject for both Greek society and its philosophers at that time. In particular, Pythagoras, Plato and Aristotle put forth comprehensive views on this subject and evaluated music with its various effects, particularly its moral and educational effects, and explained how and for what purposes it could be used. In this study, it is tried to reveal in general how the music is viewed in Ancient Greek society and philosophy.
