The aim of this study is to describe music therapy, reviewing music therapy studies with regard to addiction treatment to provide a description of the content and to introduce a study which will be held in Turkey in line with this review. On the other hand, in the article, some standardized and systematically applied programs used in the fight against addiction are briefly included. In music therapy, the option of self-expression through music allows the person to convey his/her inner feelings to the outside world indirectly while maintaining his/her privacy. Individuals experiencing addiction can benefit from almost all methods and techniques of music therapy. In the related literature, t he relaxing potential of active applications with percussion instruments, the positive effects of song composition and song writing activities on the improvement of mood and self-confidence, the enhancing contributions of receptive methods carried out through imagination on sense of self and self -care skills are observed. These superficially addressed contributions and examples given in this article's limited scope have been reported on the basis of hope that music therapy would be more integrated into t he programmes conducted in Turkey in the context of addiction treatment.
