This research aims to examine the opinions of the substitute teachers who work in Special Education and Practice Schools
about special education and disabled students. Phenomenology model was used in this research. This research was carried out with 10
substitute teachers who are working in Special Education and Practice Schools in Ankara. Semi-structured interview questions were
used to obtain research data. For the analysis of the data, the sectioning method from the content analysis was used. According to the
result of research, are special education schools necessary? For this question, the teachers stated that special education schools are
necessary and that these schools provide very important skills for students. What are the positive aspects of special education and
disabled students according to your opinion? For this question, the teachers stated that their students had special talent areas and that
they were pure, emotional and sincere. What are the negative aspects of special education and disabled students according to your
opinion? For this question, the teachers stated that the students had behavioural and learning problems. What do you think about the
special education course that you have received? For this question, some of the teachers stated that they benefited very much and they
recognised the special education field with this course, and some of them stated that they learned theoretically but there were their
deficiencies in practice. What are your opinions about classroom management in special education schools? A great majority of teachers
stated that it is necessary to be authoritative in the classroom and to get to know the student well and to make environmental
arrangements.
