Tarih boyunca Ortadou - bata Suriye-, Anadolu’nun özellikle iç ve güney kesimleri ile Karadeniz bölgesi, K?br?s, Balkanlar ve K?r?m’da yaam?lard?r (Eckmann 1988: 89). Karamanl?lar asl?nda 11. yüzy?lda Bizans ordusunda paral? asker olarak çal?an baz? Türk boylar?n?n torunlar?d?r. Bu Türk boylar? dillerini kaybetmediler ancak zamanla Hristiyanlat?lar (Eröz 1983: 3; Güler 2000: 21; Eckmann 1988: 89; Anzerliolu 2003: 136, Kahya 2008: 488).
