Proper names used in developing and changing cultures change depending on the time and environmental factors. So, in this study, Tahrir Register of 1574 was used and the names of the people in Zile were studied. In this frame, in 1574, in generation of son the data of 3283 people and in generation of father the data of 1518 people were examined and 491 names in generation of son and 321 names in generation of father were determined. According to the data in Tahrir Register of 1574, in the 16th century in Zile mostly Arabic originated names were being used. The highly preferred adjective in twoword names was Pir. Since it was clear that the name Ali was the commonest name and Hasan, Hüseyin etc. were the names that were frequently used, this can be related to the region’s own sect. It can also be said that the tradition giving the son the name of his grandfather was common in Zile in the 16th century and when giving a name to a child, the harmony between the names of the children was taken into account.
