Parallel with the increasing importance given to relationship network in contemporary public relations practices, public relations managers are expected to take more responsibility. In public relations management, which is based on communication, persuasion and perception management, it is becoming increasingly difficult to unite corporation employees and target groups in a specific thought and attitude. Thus, in public relations management which includes intense human relations, public relation managers need to manage their own emotions and others’ emotions effectively, establish healthy communication, knowing expectations of others, adapting to the emerging changes and developments quickly, being successful about relationship management. Emotional intelligence which was put forth in the 1990’s is a notion which provides individuals with the ability of understanding, describing, expressing, managing their own and others’ feelings, establishing empathy with others, creating and developing motivation. Recent researches on emotional intelligence show that people who can control and use their emotions in their relationships effectively and have high emotional intelligence are more successful in their daily life and business life. Within this framework, in this study, it is aimed to reveal the necessity and impacts of emotional intelligence in the public relations implementations by referring to public relations managers’ experiences. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were held with 10 public relations managers in Ankara and their emotional intelligence skills were analyzed. Research results indicate that public relations managers in Turkey have high emotional intelligence and they pay attention to the importance of usage of emotional intelligence in public relations implementations.
